Delivering a Quality Primary Physical Education Program

Aimed at all Primary HPE teachers, from early career to experienced. A must to enhance your Primary PE program - if you are part of a cluster or partnership of schools, this is an ideal way to collaboratively plan your program!

About This Workshop

Four of South Australia's most highly regarded Primary Physical Education specialists will offer insights and examples into their own successful programs allowing delegates to review, plan and improve their own programs. A must for all Primary PE teachers, whether you are an early career or experienced teacher. 

The day will focus on Quality Physical Education (QPE) with an emphasis on active, inclusive, peer-led learning. The workshop will offer practical strategies to ensure a dynamic and balanced program, ensure your program is developmentally appropriate and feature a variety of models of practice to enhance and differentiate learning. Features include three practical sessions and time to review, question, plan and enhance your existing program. Specific links will be also made to the new South Australian HPE Curriculum. 

Each presenter has been recognised as exemplary educators through being previous recipients of the ACHPER SA Excellence in HPE, Norma Jenner Primary Memorial Award. ACHPER SA invite you to what will be a highly valuable, innovative and engaging seminar. 

 

Practical Session Topics

Delivering a Balanced Curriculum

Presented by Nick Warren, Westminster School

Students learn in different ways and ensuring we cater for this means that we need to deliver the entire Achievement Standard throughout the course of the year. This session has a variety of Teaching Styles to explore and also different content that students need to know, understand and do such as learning about the different Movement Strategies and Concepts and how Ethical Behaviour plays a pivotal role in a successful HPE program. 

 

Exploring a Game Based approach through an Invasion Game in PE using Handball 

Presented by Travis Henderson, Wilderness School

This practical session will explore how to engage learners by developing greater tactical and technical skills when playing handball. The session will use game centred activities to transfer invasion game concepts, thinking & learning in different contexts.

 

Bringing a Quality PE Program to Life in the Primary School Setting

Presented by Kylie Newbold, Parkside Primary School

Bringing a Quality PE Program to Life in the Primary School setting can be challenging, especially when you are new to teaching HPE or want to ensure the students with whom you work with have access to a quality program. Come and learn from an educator who continues to challenge their teaching practice and seeks to fine tune their craft to make PE a valued learning area in your school by delivering the quality of the program every student is entitled to experience!
